River Basin Processes & Management – PhD projects

The River Basin Processes and Management research cluster provides international leadership in understanding and managing environmental processes and feedbacks that control and link water, sediment, solute and biotic dynamics in river basins, estuaries and marine systems. 

We have considerable experience in guiding students successfully through a PhD and helping applicants develop proposals and seek funding. Please see below for a list of potential PhD projects or submit your own research proposal as part of an application for research degree study.   We also offer some of the topics below as a Masters by Research

Please note that projects below are not funded unless indicated however you can apply for any of these projects if you already have funding or if you are applying for funding. Leeds/York NERC Doctoral Training Partnership
Funding is available every year for UK/EU students through the Leeds York NERC Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP). DTP studentships provide full fees, maintenance funding for 3.5 years (RC UK rate) and some additional  expenses for fieldwork, lab costs and conferences. Projects eligible for NERC DTP funding are listed on the School website and NERC DTP website in the autumn and the deadline for applications is usually in January.
